In the midst of the coronavirus outbreak here in Ireland over the last few weeks, the measures have created a childcare crisis for parents. The issue has caused significant problems for frontline healthcare workers and other essential workers. Creches, schools and other childcare facilities have closed and this has created a need for our frontline workers to find alternative childcare.

Advice when choosing a childminder

When connecting with a childminder for the first time, consider doing so by video call to see if they are a good fit. You can then arrange a meeting in person.

To support social distancing and minimise risk it is recommended that childminders:

Do not work if they have symptoms
Do not care for children who have symptoms
Consider prioritising children of essential frontline workers.
